USA : VIRGINIA : SHENANDOAH VALLEYNATURAL : Vidal Blanc, Chambourcin, Petit Manseng, TraminetteLIGHT-BODIED, DRY CRANBERRY, TART CITRUS, DRIED HERB, NO OAKLightwell Survey is a Waynesboro, Virginia négoce project — winemaker Ben Jordan and D.C. sommelier Sebastian Zutant, united by a shared obsession with the low-intervention French producers that rewired American palates in the early 2000s. They source from cooler, higher-elevation Shenandoah Valley sites most Virginia producers overlook, ferment with native yeasts, and filter only if absolutely necessary. Their aim, in their own words: unusual, delicious, and provocative wines. The Electric Juice Box is their annual rosé statement — the blend shifts year to year, but the mission stays constant. White grapes (Vidal Blanc, Petit Manseng, Traminette) carry freshness and structure; Chambourcin pushes the color past pale pink into light cranberry territory and adds fruit depth. Full malolactic fermentation builds texture and eliminates the need to filter. A small SO2 addition keeps it fresh. Ben Jordan: "With a small addition of SO2, we find a wine that is charming, with creamy fruit at bottling and that develops over time, daring us to take it more seriously. You don't have to do that, but you can!"PAIRINGS : Grilled shrimp tacos with chili-lime crema cranberry acidity cuts through chili heat and creamy fat Charcuterie with cornichons and pickled mustard herb notes and zippy acidity match cured meat and brine Watermelon and feta salad juicy fruit mirrors the melon; herbs bridge the saltiness
