Laphroaig 10 Years Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky NV

$68

SCOTLAND : ISLAY100% Malted BarleyFULL-BODIED, PEAT SMOKE, IODINE, SEAWEED, VANILLAThe original. Laphroaig has been distilling on Islay's Kildalton coast since 1815, and the 10 Year Old is the expression that defined medicinal peat as a style. Still floor-malting about 20% of its barley on-site — one of the few distilleries still doing it — and maturing exclusively in ex-bourbon American oak for a minimum of 10 years. What hits you first is the smoke and iodine. Underneath there's real sweetness: vanilla, hazelnut, a note of banana from the ex-bourbon wood. The 40% ABV keeps it approachable; a few drops of water open it up considerably.80 ProofPlease note: Spirits are only available for local delivery or in-store pickup. All orders for shipping will be cancelled immediately.

Happy #WorldWhiskeyDay. Medium golden yellow. Quite Smokey and peaty on the nose with some brininess, caramel and vanilla. Similar palate tot he nose but with more vanilla. Pinch of heat beat the end and a bit oily.

Gather all the twigs in the forest, throw them in a pile, douse them in gasoline, light them on fire... put a plastic bag over it and catch the smoke... condense it and pour the liquid into a glass. Then drink it. Or lick an ashtray and you'll know what this scotch tastes like. It seems to be growing on me nonetheless.

Spartan, more than serviceable. Sauternes cocktails are a possibility.

Really one of my first, serious tastings of whiskey, & so, so evocative. Wild, swampy, just burned barn-just crazy, dream inducing stuff

Color of tea. Nose of smoke, peat, sweet dates, spicy and strong alcohol, and more coal like peat. The nose is powerful. Taste is another hit of smoky peat. First sip is dry, however the sweetness surfaces later. Hidden note of marginal sweet apple. Aftertaste shows some baked apple and more smoky peat note. Clean, powerful, straightforward, and tasty.
