SOUTH AFRICA : KLEIN KAROO : LADISMITH Colombard FULL-BODIED, DRIED APRICOT, VANILLA, TROPICAL FRUIT, JASMINE From a town named after Lady Juana — the Spanish-born wife of a 19th-century Cape governor — this pot still brandy is one of the rarest releases out of the Klein Karoo. The distillery fires a single copper pot still, designed by the late "Oom Fasie" van Niekerk, just once a year, producing enough base wine for 1,000 bottles of finished brandy. Eight years in French oak do the rest. Colombard thrives in this arid climate, where dramatic overnight temperature drops force a longer ripening period and concentrate the fruit acids that define high-quality brandy base wine. Four gold medals across Michelangelo, Los Angeles, New York, and The Spirits Business in 2018.
