USA : NAPA VALLEY : YOUNTVILLE Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc MED-BODIED, WILD STRAWBERRY, RED CURRANT, TOBACCO LEAF, CRUSHED ROCK, NEW OAK Christian Moueix, of Petrus and Trotanoy in Pomerol, has farmed the Napanook vineyard west of Yountville since 1982. The site is dry farmed on volcanic gravel that drains hard, which is exactly the asset you want in a year like 2011. That year was cold, wet and late, and Napa spent a decade arguing about it. The critics still do: Decanter 96 pts, Wine Advocate 89 pts. Both agreed it succeeded where the vintage defeated others. Fifteen years on, this is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, savory rather than plush, and ready to drink now. PAIRINGS : Roast leg of lamb Wine & Spirits called this a great bottle for lamb; rosemary meets the herb and tobacco notes Grilled ribeye enough tannin for fat and char without flattening the meat Aged Comte nutty, crystalline cheese picks up the almond and caramel in the wine

The 2011 Dominus is a bold, powerful wine. It opens with a huge bouquet redolent of dried herbs, licorice, spice, tobacco and espresso. Relative to most vintages of Dominus, the 2011 is a bit light, but compared to most wines of the year, it is pretty big! The cool, savory notes that are typical of the year are present, but not dominant, while the 2011 is marked by a distinctly red fruit profile. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2022)

Young and awkward now but lots of potential from an "off" vintage.

Herbal, menthol, smoke, barrel, licorice and forest berries. What an impressive mixture of flavours! What a tour de force to pull off a wine like this on an off-year in Napa. So good.

2011 was a dark and wet vintage for Napa. This may explain the palpable tension that currently permeates this opulent, rich, yet nonetheless lacking red blend. With a gentle spin of your glass, tanned leather and dark fruit aromas are carried upward on a wave of ethanol vapor. This wave comes crashing down with a cheek grippingly sour finish that may convince you to give this vintage some time to mature.

Excellent napa cab, more classic than a good many bordeaux, with richness, structure and complexity to match most at the $200 mark as well. Lovely graphite, tilled earth, spruce and tobacco nose, refined cassis in background. Very elegant, mineral and long on the palate. 2011 vintage.
