An ardent traditionalist, Laurent Charvin makes one of the more interesting wines in the CdP AOC. There is no super-cuvée; their best fruit goes into their standard (and only) bottling. Opened several hours prior to service. The 2015 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, developing with an intriguing combination of fresh and desiccated brambles, Cedar forest, Christmas fruit cake, black pepper, and well-oiled baseball glove and a mix dried green herbs. On the palate, the wine is bone dry, medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, rich and juicy with surprising structure. Delicious. Drink now and through 2030+

YOUNG and tightly wound for Charvin. I’m digging it, its carrying a load of freshness and bounce from a vintage that has yielded some impressively ripe and weighty wines. Very aromatic and pure, taught and elegant. Silky tannins, very sleek. Crispy red berries, bing cherry, mulberry, star anise, black tea, stones, very tame herbals and a more floral garrigue, lavender in all its glory. Can wait for a revisit down the road.

Tasted blind, 3 very different wines but all 3 were excellent and showed their character well. A magnificent and very explosive nose almos, changing fast, complex, deep aromas of soices, black and then white pepper, Provence herbs, black currant, a superb nose. The palate is fairly powerful, a good acidity to go with the strong tannins but mostly amlkng delicious finish, impressive length. 91-92 Dégustation en semi aveugle, 3 rouges très différents. 3 vins magnifiques et de style différents. Magnifique nez excessivement aromatique, très complexe et profond, change énormément, allant du poivre blanc, des herbes, des épices, du cassis, superbe nez. Une bouche puissante mais un peu contenue, une finale surtout excessivement longue avec ces notes d’épices douces et de de poivre. 91-92

Very young so decanted 5 hours before serving. A very expressive nose of dark and red fruits, cassis, cherries and strawberries, kirsch, white pepper, thyme and some floral scents. The palate is forward despite the youth of the wine, medium bodied plus, gorgeous fruit and decent length of the delicious gripping finale. 92-93 Très jeune donc carafé 5 heures avant de le boire, dégusté avec le délicieux et copieux menu hivernal de la Cabane d’à côté, commandé et livré à la maison via la boutique en ligne du Pied de Cochon. Un nez très aromatique, une explosion de fruits, cerises, fraises, kirsch, du poivre blanc, du thym, une touche florale. La bouche se montre avenante, ouverte malgré la jeunesse, belle acidité, ce fruité envoutant dont on ne se lasse pas et une finale delicieuse et de belle longueur, avec juste un peu de poigne sans être trop tannique. 92-93 pts
