Founded in 1897 and part of Diageo's Classic Malts since 1989, Dalwhinnie is one of the most widely recognized Scottish single malts in the world. The distillery still uses traditional worm tub condensers, reinstated in 1995 after a brief removal during modernisation — they run warmer than modern alternatives, leaving heavier compounds in the spirit that evolve over maturation into characteristic nutty depth. The 15 Year Old matures in refill American oak ex-bourbon casks — gentle wood contact that keeps the distillery character forward over fifteen years at altitude, where cold nights slow evaporation and concentrate development. The result is soft and immediately rewarding: honey and orchard fruit on the nose, dried apricot and vanilla on the palate, a long malty finish that dries toward walnut and light peat smoke.
