Casa Ferreirinha (Sogrape Vinhos) Papa Figos Douro Red Blend 2015

One of my favorite wine lists in SF, Uma Casa pours almost exclusively Portuguese offerings. While I’m not ready to dish out the dough for Barca Velha, Casa Ferreirinha’s entry red is tasting quite nicely. Plush, velvety tannins pave the way for flavors or dusty violet petal, plum skin, hibiscus and blueberries. Rather primary, but super sumptuous.

Has some port wine qualities, prunes, spice, orange peel, dark red fruits. Firm sweet tannins.

Solid everyday quaffer or a decent compliment to barbecue. Dried black fruit aromas, moderate alcohol, relatively smooth tannins and fairly low acidity. Very forward, simple wine with a surprising raisin/prune character for such modest ABV %.

Dark as night in the glass. Not bombastic on the nose. Tiny bit of black fruit juice and sweat. Flavors are inky and very dry. Bit of cherry/berry fruit leather. Plenty of leather leather and some tar. Very cool label. Nice stuff in the bottle too.

Old world, pruny musky, dark purple, shoe leather rubbing alcohol, tree bark, balanced grippy tannins
