PORTUGAL : BEIRA INTERIOR : CASTELO RODRIGO Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional, Jaen MED-FULL-BODIED, DARK CHERRY, BLACKBERRY, SPICE, MINERAL, NEUTRAL OAK Beyra is Rui Roboredo Madeira's high-altitude project, built around vineyards at 700 meters near Vermiosa — among the highest plantings in Portugal. The plateau's granite and schist soils, combined with severe diurnal swings and low rainfall, produce Tinta Roriz with more tension and mineral cut than the same grape delivers at lower elevations in Spain or southern Portugal. Six months in seasoned French oak adds integration without weight. The 2022 vintage was hot and dry across interior Portugal, but Beira Interior's elevation insulated these vineyards from the worst heat. The result is a structured, fruit-forward red that earned 91 points from Wine Enthusiast — a genuine overperformer at the price. PAIRINGS : Grilled lamb chops dark fruit and spice mirror the char and fat; structure cuts through the richness Slow-braised beef short rib oak-aged tannin integrates with collagen-rich braising; vanilla note complements the sauce Aged Manchego or sheep's milk cheese regional Iberian pairing; wine's acidity refreshes between bites of salty, fatty cheese
