USA : CALIFORNIA : NAPA VALLEY ORGANIC : Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot FULL-BODIED, BLACK CHERRY, CASSIS, GRAPHITE, NEW OAK Dana Estates was founded in 2005 by Hi Sang Lee, a South Korean entrepreneur who first encountered Napa Valley wine in the 1980s and spent two decades identifying hillside parcels before bottling a single vintage. The four estate vineyards — Crystal Springs, Helms, Hershey, and Lotus — run from Rutherford up to 1,800 feet on Howell Mountain; Helms was a working winery as early as 1883. All four are organically farmed. The Onda draws from all four sites with Crystal Springs contributing the largest share — 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot, aged 21 months in 53% new French oak. Maura Johnson directs winemaking with Philippe Melka consulting. In 2019 the hillside sites produced small berries with thick skins and bright acidity; Dana picked Crystal Springs on September 7. Jeb Dunnuck 96 pts: "pure Cabernet Sauvignon cassis, graphite, lead pencil, and tobacco...reminds me of a great Saint-Julien." James Suckling 96 pts. Wine Advocate 94 pts. Drink through 2035+.
