Turley Hayne Vineyard Petite Syrah 2014

I have to say, it is not what I expected from Turley, or even a Petite Sirah. Very elegant, not too much on a jammy side, and brighter red fruits to the mid pallet.. not as dark, spicy, and chocolatey rich as most. Smoke, cherry, cedar, wildflower, vanilla all I'm the nose. The pallet was pretty balanced, exhibiting notes of black raspberry, Bing cherry, cloves, mocha (not too rich on the cocoa), and a smooth, slightly thin finish. Had a little more Syrah to the feel of it, but I will say maybe my faith in Turley wines has been renewed, ever so slightly. Brava, Mrs. Turley!

Popped young with a two hour decant. Fine tannins, light acidity, and medium to full bodied. Nose was quiet but this was a mouthful. Blue and purple fruit with a noticeable savoriness. I'd gladly get more and let it sit.

My first Turley, won't be my last. Smooth fruit. Not too sweet which is a good thing. Velvety finish

Every bit as good as the 2012 vintage.

Great wine full body and subtle tannins that are great with pork or beef. Nose is fruit but the taste is cocoa and some blackberry.

That great petite last night made me want to do a blind flight when we got home. I favored the mending wall while jennie liked the prospect. Putting our scores together, the top 3 were all close: 2016 prospect (2nd day open) 2015 mending wall 2015 macauley 4) 2014 turley hayne 5) 2015 louis martini These blind coravin flights are always going to favor the flavorful expressive wines (which describe the top 3). The hayne is reserved and needs lots of time to come around. I personally prefer the rattlesnake vineyard earlier on before the hayne develops. The louis martini was fine on the palate but the obvious oak on the nose took off points.
