Giacomo Conterno Vigna Francia Barbera d'Alba 2013 (1500ml)

$145

GUARANTEED BEST PROVENANCE: DIRECTLY IMPORTED FROM ITALY BY AIR Conterno makes powerful Barbera wines that are truly world-class wines. You pay more for these wines than other Barbera wines from the region, and after one taste you'll understand why. The 2013 Barbera d'Alba from their Serralunga Francia vineyard is intensely mineral driven, with ripe black cherry, fennel & tobacco, and a touch of smokiness -- but what smacks your palate is the kaleidoscope of rich minerality and assertive acidity. It's delicious, but much more masculine than the 2012 & 2011 Francia vintages. I'd let this one rest for a few years. The daring and impatient can pop the cork and pair it with something rich and fatty, like an insalata di carne cruda (think steak tartare), lamb stew, grilled veal chops, or even barbecued baby-back ribs. Alcohol: 14% Bottle Size: 1.5 Liter Magnum

Not like any other barbera. Like a boxer in ballet flats. Underripe dark fruits, plums esp, but in a light crisp crunchy package. Do I sense a bit of VA? Such a great food wine.

Perfect cure to a rainy day in the Langhe. This is Barbera on a completely different level. Hedonistically pleasurable, but I want to check back in 5 years.

Delicious. Smoke, pork fat, dark fruit and a healthy amount of acidity. Better barbera had and perfect with pork loin.
