Always a multi-day opera with this one: Day 1: Luden’s cough drops, dill, coriander and pickling spices. Whiff of boiled weeds. And this is a fruit day. And the wine is clean as a whistle, tender and tempting. If you’re an Enderle fan, none of this sounds even remotely odd. Day 2: Rancid strip mall Peking Duck, MSG straight out of the box, and cabbage boiled in a cheap aluminum pot. Wretched. Day 3: The most tender, pure and clear cherry aromas and flavors, reminiscent of Tollot-Beaut or Cornu Chorey-les-Beaune of the 1980s. A long, palpable finish of immense, chalky minerals and vibrant acids. Extraordinary.

A nearly perfect German Spat. Expressive and restrained. Nothing short of beautiful from Enderle & Moll who many consider the best Pinot wranglers in Germany. This is light and lucid with the temperament of a dark shadowed forest. Damp soil, sprawling moss, minty herbs. The faintest strawberry and cherry underneath a salty lean mineral figure.

Needs a ton of air. Coiled up - closed. Very tart - light - bark - touch volatile acid but really not a big deal it blows off. Crushed marble quite acidic - lingonberry tart cranberries touch cloves - another E&M from the 17 vintage that should be left alone for a year or so. I suspect this will be brillant. However for now tough to read and certainly not a wine which you can put on the shelf I will definitely alert my wine-store friends that this needs time. I would not buy this unless you know E&M already.
