First Himmelreich I’ve tasted from the 2016 vintage and as always this producer sets the bar awfully high. So far this confirms my preference for the Spätlese wines of the vintage over the Kabinett but only by the slimmest of margins. The best examples have all retained supercharged acidity but offer the ample weight for complete balance. This one is in perfect harmony right now. Grapefruit, green apple, apricot and intense floral quality. Minerality kicks in right up front and doesn’t quit. Ideal food wine.

All slate and snappy green apples, smoked hay / straw, flint, chalk, white peach, quince, lime zest, honeycomb, great balance, utterly delicious. Wine didn’t last long. The ultimate glou glou wine. 7.5 ABV
