On the pop and pour this was a bit disjointed and really not all that interesting. After several hours of air, the wine began to show better with bright red fruits over dark fruits with some soft tobacco notes and earth. Soft tannins with a good spine of acidity. Cork back in the neck and revisited a few days later. The remainder on Day 3 was still quite good and more open, but nothing particularly extraordinary. Having never had Sassicaia, I cannot compare but even at its relatively modest price, I can’t say that this version of Guidalberto represents a good QPR...not that it really matters to some. Maybe I’m being a touch harsh. It’s a fine enough wine made in a style that I can absolutely appreciate (not overdone); I guess I was just wanting more than it could give. Perhaps the problem is me

The 2015 Guidalberto is a delicious, mid-priced red from Tenuta San Guido. Here, too the style is quite restrained for a wine that in the past has played more on textural richness and volume. At times, Guidalberto was richer and more voluptuous in style than Sassicaia, but the 2015 is done in a style that is more similar to that of its big brother. It remains to be seen if that is a true stylistic shift or simply a reflection of the 2015 vintage. In any event, the 2015 is very pretty. Sweet Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics, pliant red-toned fruit and mid-weight structure are the signatures. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, April 2018)

Very focused wine. Deep dark fruit. We decanted it for 30 minutes. Great with our Italian meal!

60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot Vintage elevage can vary, but is mostly 6-8 year old French oak barrels, with a small percentage of new French oak. The team at Sasaacaia do not look at Guidalberto as a second wine, specific plots are destined for this wine from the 10-24 year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Merlot does not even make it into #Sassicaia. The nose is serious, with pronounced complexity and density, focused and showing varietal nuances. Excellent grip and structure, fleshier fruit notes turn darker with deeper cherry, red raspberry and cassis fruit, sweet blue and violet floral notes. A sweet core of ripe and velvety tannin, while juicy acidity amps up the the fruit presence, while adding freshness and spine. This is a smart buy almost every vintage and 2015 is no exception.

Always nice to try something I would never think to buy be pleasantly surprised. Expected a monster, but found a classy, understated wine. I will take this over many (but not all) similarly priced Médoc wines.

A bit transparency. Black currant and earthy aroma. Concentration. Tree skins. Sweet, cherry and spicy. 2015 @, Enoteca - JH, 200101-230101

Guidalberto, the second wine from Tenuta San Guido is dark in its appearance and elegant on the palate, made of Cabernet Sauvignon and a bit of Merlot, which gives the wine softness.
