Lovely old claret. Nose was perhaps a bit reticent but still some blue fruits, tobacco and leather. Same flavors reflected in the palate with some sweetness that just made this find so much better. 1981 is definitely not a strong vintage for Bordeaux, but this was a great find.

Gift to my brother on his 40th birthday. #pomerol can be beautiful and this bottle certainly was. Plenty of primary black fruit left, sous bois aromas. Wine is alive on the palate, interesting peppery note on first sip, bright acidity balanced by earthy fruit compote. Lovely wine which shows a well-made Right Bank Bordeaux can be delicious over time even in a supposedly off year like 1981.

Black fruits, damp earth, tobacco, licorice, chocolate, nice mouth feel of sweet ripe fruit, mineral, cola, full bodied with good structure and a 30 second finish.
