Domaine des Baumard Trie Spéciale Savennières Chenin Blanc 2000

Our experience with aged Savennières is maybe 2-3 bottles - we typically drink recent vintages - so my frame of reference is non-existent. We opened a 2016 of the regular Baumard, for uh, science. The cork came out beautifully, never would have guessed it was 20 years old. Poured a deep golden color, like a sauternes or a 10-year old scotch. The nose is rich in character, highlighted with apples and honey. The mouth is amazing. Slightly oxidative, baked apples and pears, apricots, nectarines and honey. Acidity is perfect, and the finish lasts for what seems like an eternity. Aged Savennières is definitely polarizing, with the Mrs. thinking it is way past. I think this is a fantastic wine and am happy I don't have to share! Compared to the 2016, it's hard to tell these are the same grape. I feel like this would pair really well with smoked trout, popcorn or french fries.
