Shafer One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$94.99

Another great release of this Napa Cabernet classic. "Blueberry, black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, along with crushed rock and spring flowers are present in this medium-bodied, stylish and elegant wine. Tannins are soft, the wine pure and ideal for drinking now and over the next 12-15 years." WA 94 "Vivd and gorgeous. Beautiful now. Built for aging. Better in 2020." JSuckling 95

2013 Shafer one point five cabernet sauvignon from the Stags Leap district of coarse! Well, perfection dad and son! John and Doug, you guys have mastered it. The cork was in perfect condition. After a 45 min eternity of time for decanting, the color is as dark as the night sky on a stormy night in the hills of Tennessee. The legs are slow and thick. The bouquet is peppered cranberry juice with a twist of rip figs growing on the tree. The initial palate is reminiscent of buttered toast and blackberry jam. There is a hint of spice and black pepper. On the finish which is very long, I detect black coffee and dark chocolate - not the Dove version, but the bitter version. There is an fired oaky wood flavor with a blast of a maduro cigar! The finish is very dry and if I don't get a sip of water soon My tongue my shrivel up. But I need another sip first! Fantastic wine! Here is a toast to the Shafer family and to my wonderful and beautiful Dayanara on our new home! Cheers!

Soft and smooth. Not quite Hillside Select but I really like this. Soaring bouquet and lingering finish. Perfect.

Lush, velvety, ripe black cherry, cassis, cedar, cloves, cinnamon , chocolate, and peppery. Lots of life ahead of this one.

A bouquet of fresh berries with a hint of rose pedals wrapped in a tobacco leaf - a bit our sour cherries in the palate.

Black cherry, blackberry, tobacco, chocolate, some earthy funk and a little raspberry on the finish.

The 2013 needs a decant to really start strutting its stuff

Honestly both were a bit disappointing. Nothing to either of them

Fully opaque violet in the glass. Pungent aroma of spearmint accompanies cassis and blackberry. Impressive concentration and power evident on the palate from this great vintage with blackberry jam, licorice, good acidity, smooth tannins, and 15.3% alcohol. Aged 20 months in 100% new French oak.

One of their better vintages IMO. Nice complexity. Red fruit, bramble, ink, tar, Chinese hot mustard, savory spices, camphor, and black dirt. Medium plus body.
