Seghesio Family Vineyards Sonoma County Zinfandel 2013

Pretty much everything you want in a Zinfandel here. It's exuberant, richly fruited, bold, and easy to drink with everything from BBQ ribs to Thanksgiving dinner. Enjoy any you don't finish this year through 2020 or so. "A lively, zesty red that offers bright cherry and tarragon aromas and sleekly layered flavors of briary raspberry, nutmeg and fresh-cracked black pepper." WS 92

Seghesio us probably my favorite zinfandel producer but this is their bare bones basic version. Still loaded with sour cherry and raspberry notes and extremely drinkable, but their Cortina vineyard, Rockpile and Home Ranch provide better expressions for just a little more.

Much better the second night. First night, it came across very much like a simple zin fruit bomb. Second night, it evened out a bit. Midpalate is a touch hollow. I'm sorry, Mendo producers like Graziano, Steele, and others truly do the best Zin in California. This is a nice wine, but I just haven't found a single producer outside of Mendocino that can stack up quality and price wise to the mendo crew. pH is just a bit too high. It muddies the palate towards that nearly overly fruit forward posture. Closed aromatics, unfortunately. I enjoy the wine, just the slightest bit lacking for the 25 dollars.

Thought I would try this given 2010 vintage was rock star. Nose is nice... Toasted bread? Gives way to classic zinfandel. Not as good as predecessor but worthy of a weekend meal.

Deep dark fruits with a touch of spice. Good wine for Thanksgiving.
