Roots Run Deep Winery Educated Guess Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

The big Wine Advocate rating for the 2013 pushed price up a bit, but this is still a fine value in robust Napa Cab. You'll find loads of black fruit (blackberry, currant, and cherry) framed by notes of spice box, chocolate, and crushed mint. It's soft and supple and mouthfilling and the fruit gushes right on through the spicy chocolate and herb finish. Stands up to steak well but very sippable.

Deep ruby in color with a purplish rim. Clean and gentle nose of blackberries, blueberries, figs, plums, cherries, oak, licorice, strawberry jam, vanilla, spices, bubble gum, metals, cherry pie, nail polish remover and peppercorn. Full bodied, rich and smooth, with medium acidity and great looking legs. Fruity on the palate, with blueberries, plums, cherries, strawberries, licorice, vanilla, leather, pencil lead, spices and peppercorn. Long finish with firm tannins and black pepper. This is a great Napa Cab. Great looking bottle too. Nicely balanced and complex. Needs an hour (at least) to open up, so be patient. Enjoyable by itself or with food, like a nice piece of steak. I enjoyed it all by itself, it's like having a candy. Delicious. 14.5% alcohol by volume.

Really loving this one. I normally am not a cab fan but I could not resist the name and label. It's pleasantly awesome. For me I call this a great Friday wine, but it's been a very long week so I deserve it on a Thursday. The tannins are pleasant and not too heavy at all, it has some awesome fruit notes and a wonderful bite on the finish; looks deep and bold in the glass but a s more if a medium body. I'm quite very pleased with it, well worth the $22 I paid. Cheers!
