Michael David Winery (Michael & David Phillips) Petite Petit Lodi Petite Sirah Petit Verdot 2013

"An outstanding wine with gorgeous aromatics of incense, blueberry liqueur, camphor and blackberry, the wine hits the palate with a full-bodied, thunderous inky feel to it, great fruit purity, amazingly supple, velvety tannins for Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, and a long finish. This is another wine that over-delivers in a big way. Drink it over the next 5-7 years." WA 90

Definitely opens up nicely with a better and more distinct finish after about a 30 minute rest. Some fruit without being fruity, a smooth mildly tannic finish. Tasty!

2013 vintage. Had some friends over and pulled out 4 wines for a blind taste test. This bottle being the least expensive. It came out the hands down winner among both men and women. As others have stated, this could be a great introduction to red wines. I usually prefer to introduce reds with a Beaujolais or Pinot from Oregon, but this one runs it's own race. Dark berry fruits, very forward, almost over jammy but not overly so. Surprisingly likeable impact. Good wine for sharing with friends who are not stuck in the Bordeaux mode. Try it with barbequed sirloin slathered with BBQ sauce. Very nice but not too serious. Very good every day BBQ wine.
