Bodegas LAN Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2010

$18.99

They've freshed up the label on this long-time favorite Rioja Reserva but the wine's the same as ever. You'll find plenty of rich Tempranillo black fruit and a lift of tangy acidity from other Rioja varietals, all wrapped up in a plush blanket of vanilla/dill/smoke laced American oak. All the spice, dark fruit, bright acidity and a good dose of chewy tannin make this great for grilled or roasted meat.

On the nose tobacco, leather and red fruit. In the mouth, bright red cherries and iron. Medium-long finish with a slightly bitter edge. Better than most of the reviews seemed to state IMO. A fairly classic rioja with some modern cleanliness.

nose had lots of stewed and dried red and black fruits- plum, black and red cherries, dried raspberries, leather, bloody steak, a little kalamata. flavors showed plum, red and black cherries, a little beef jerky, dry earth, dried strawberries, little olive. this was very fruity and simple upon first opening- but after sitting overnight the more meaty/savory flavors came out. satisfying upfront- but had zero finish.

Fresh and vibrant. Strawberry and blueberry, orange peel, mint, chocolate, and coconut, with some secondary leather, tobacco, and earth. Tannins are fully resolved, but just present enough to provide an outline of structure.

Dark fruit, low tannins, smoke, pepper with nice acid finish. Very nice for the moderate price. 2010

Probably one of the better sub 20 dollar bottle wines I have had in a long time. Expressive, with bright acidity. Red fruit dominant, with purple floral aromatics as well as gaminess and tertiary flavors of dried herbal characteristics developing . A great buy for the price.
