Bodegas LAN Crianza Rioja Tempranillo 2012

$11.99

An old favorite gets a snazzy new label but keeps the old-school style and quality intact. It's 95% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo selected from 10 to 20 year-old vines aged 18 months in barrels with American oak staves and French oak tops/bottoms. Lots of sweet red fruit plus accents of spice and vanilla show on the nose and palate and linger on the nicely juicy finish.

A really nice and polite crianza. Earthy on the nose, bright raspberry to start the palate. Round and acidic through the middle, and a lingering earthy finish. Fun to drink and nice with food.

aromas give candied cherries, earth, red plum, cedar, faint iron/blood...mouth shows simple but well-integrated red fruit, earth and leather... supported by a bit of acidity and very faint tannin.
