A big full bodied red as you would expect given the style and the vintage. Plum, black currant, mocha, liquorice and the remnants of too much American oak in its youth but now settling down and coming together at 26 years of age. At least another 10 years future in it I would say. After a couple of hours in the decanter a very good Cabernet but not particularly identifiable as Coonawarra, although rereading the label the grapes were sourced from a few districts in South Australia. Very Penfolds in style. See 2 previous Delectable notes going back a few years.

I bought a dozen of this wine 20 years ago and this is the 10th. Still monolithic and a bit square sided at 22 years of age. Full bodied showing black currant and herbal notes. Silky tannins but finishing a little green - showing over extraction? Next one in a few years but can’t see it changing much. As a general comment I feel that Penfolds jacking the price of 707 currently to around $550 is excessive but good luck to them for selling at this price and bringing closer to the price of Grange. Good news for TWE Shareholders!

Dark Ruby. Ripe blackcurrant aromas with some ground coffee notes. More in the ripe fruit than herbal spectrum. A powerful full bodied wine with big Fruit Oak and Tannin. Tastes more like a 5 year old wine than 20 years and will easily live another 10 to 15 years. A little square sided at this stage. Hopefully will develop more complexity with further age.

Had it December 2010. Thick ruby. Nose of blueberries, mulberries, chocolate, incense, tobacco, raw meat, liquorice, red rose, elegant hints of herbaceous, fava beans, cigars box, mint. Mouth intense, full and velvety. Excellent tannin, savoury with choc in evidence, then tobacco and fruits. Minerally backbone, hints of violet, leather and pepper. Long, round and sunny(?). Still young, balanced. Rustic, but elegant= Aussie

1996 and still at top of its game! Taken from my notes now that we are home. Great structure, fabulous body , and stylistically try to the 707's form. Very Impressive.
