Always a treat. Harlan 2004 is deep violet in colour, great structure, blackberry and some warm spices. Great acid. Just lovely.

Never a bad night when you’re drinking aged Harlan. The 2004 has grown savory in character - tobacco leaves, thyme, animals and rust. Still palate coatingly tannic, but the needle of fine acidity provided a beautiful textural juxtaposition.

On this Independence Day I celebrate those who gave some and those who gave all for our country. I am grateful to have the opportunity to enjoy this incredible wine in peace and prosperity.

With 20 years of age this wine has evolved. The primary fruit has moved to deep dried versions of cherry blackberry and fig side by side with earth tar leather cedar bitter cocoa and tobacco. The nose is extremely pronounced and the tannins now soft. It was worth keeping these 2 decades.

From magnum, this was a beautiful wine with still many more years of life ahead. Showing black currant, tobacco, dried thyme, squid ink and Chinese 5 spice. Stunner.
