2006 #Saffredi is in an AMAZING place ~ aromas of brambly raspberry/blackberry patch, loads of purple flowers, sous bois & mushrooms, crushed minerals & graphite ~ intense razzles & crushed sweet tarts resonate w soft licorice & mocha notes rounding out the palate

A great bottle; quite dark but by no means opaque super-tuscan; served quite cold but really opened up in the glass, shedding the light notes of petrol to reveal a startlingly brilliant fresh blackcurrent skins with notes of tobacco, freshly turned soil, and hints of thyme and stocks. Nicely tannic with surprisingly but beautifully present acidity. Stunning with fresh pasta and goats cheese! Tempted to get a case so I can see how it develops over the next ten years. Could go either way into secondary; full marks and top of the class or the tired high-school drop-out in a second rate early John Travolta movie ...
