Nose has blackberry/blueberry jam, fresh roses, burnt leather, cigar humidor, dried mud and spring violets. Palate has rain soaked blackberries, ripe plum, dried orange zest, cedar, dried blueberries with mild tannins. Lovely wine. Purchased in February 2005; $34. Fantastic price for this great Fourth Growth producer, I wish we'd bought a lot more on this vintage. Decanted 5H at the time of notes, more time appreciated. A beautiful wine, drink 2025-2030. Paired with Allen Bros. rib caps tonight, delectable.

Yesterday’s Wednesday Wine Committee lunch. Normal format of 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All tasted blind. Thankfully there was another bottle open because the bottle my glass was from was quite corked. There was more dense and sweet fruit here than I expected...herbal and leather notes are starting to emerge but the black cherry and plum is still center stage. There is also some vanilla pipe tobacco, potpourri and black pepper on the palate and finish. I called this left bank Bordeaux.

Weekend Birthday Wines. Nose of blackberry paste and Cassis. More new world than Bordeaux. Could have been from the Napa or South Australia. Full bodied and powerful, particularly for a 17 year old 4th growth admittedly from a good vintage. M+ smooth Tannins. Will cellar for many years yet.

Perfect aromatics of dark cherry and currant. Mid palate of earth, tobacco, coffee, and rich enough to show even more age ability. Really lovely. Far better than the price alludes.
