1982 vintage. Cinnamon and baked cherry nose with specks of pepper; eucalyptus aura shimmering. Rye bread with plum reduction, dusty cedar, dehydrated blackberry, broiled blueberry, reflective graphite glimmers, toasted wheat, holly leaf. Baked bing and raspberry with dried plum skin; black currant reduction with all kinds of legs. Sage and dandelion leaf, dried black mushroom, bitter blueberry, graphite gravy, and a side of pomegranate. So fun to taste this legendary vintage. Seems to be in the perfect place now. #1982 #1982bordeaux #firstgrowthbordeaux #firstgrowth #bordeaux #chateaumargaux #margaux #grandvin #grandvindebordeaux #premiergrandcruclasse #1855 #societecivileagricolechateauxmargaux #misenbouteilleauchateau

Birthday wine!!! Best example of 82 margaux I’ve tasted. Perfectly stored. Deep and dark mahogany color with minimal bricking. Absolutely beautiful nose of red currant, cassis, dried rose petals, pencil shavings, fresh green tobacco and cedar. Some noticeable green character and earthiness that is definitely ‘margaux’. We could not believe how young this still is. Provenance was perfect. Came out of an unbroken owc. Elegant yet powerful at the same time. Could easily last another 20 years yet so beautiful on its (and my) 39th bday.

Last week was a combo of 4th Friday and Open That Bottle Night on back to back nights. Needless to say, the lineup between both days was full of heavy hitters, so I’m only posting standout bottles. In the running for top red wine of OTBN. I’ve had Chateau Margaux three times before, and they’ve all been the ‘82. Not sure how I lucked in to that. Didn’t need long to blow off its funk. Almost ethereal in profile. Light in regards to expectations, and then as it lingers it snaps your head back with wide eyes. Delicate flowers like roses and violets accompanied by juniper, herbs de Provence, dried black cherries, pipe tobacco and soft raspberry fig. Amazingly acidic and tannic at 38yrs young. Saddle leather, dates, blackberries, currant, underbrush and high percentage raspberry infused dark cocoa. Magnificent.

Deep tannin, dark fruit. Opened up very slowly. Bottle variation though; not sure if each “specimen” is meant for another 10 years.

A true legend. Everything you could ever want in a Bordeaux and had the finish been a little more pronounced it would be a prefect wine.

A legendary wine! After 36 years, this bottle still shows fruit. Aged fig, dark currants, sweet cassis with notes of tar/charcoal bricks with undertones of cocoa espresso. I’d like another one, please.
