Another great Classic Wine Happy Hour in the books! Always a treat to have a designated day each month where guys can pull out some unique bottles! This was courtesy of @Benjamin Keator and I freaking loved it. Felt like it was in a sweet spot. I believe it had been opened earlier in the day to give it some air, and by the time I had it, it was firing on all cylinders. Texture on the palate was excellent. Tannins were well integrated. Vanilla, blueberries, black licorice, cedar.

Drinking really well with about an hour decant, tight and reduced at cork pull but was in the perfect spot at this age within an hour to 2.

We had the 2008 Vintage on 12/31/25. The last bottle of the year was a disappointment. Maybe this was just a bad bottle. Maybe the wine is on the decline. Whatever, this was just not good. There were tastes of of plum and camphor. An earthiness for sure. Medium bodied. I had better from other vintages.

This wine was in a pretty good place tonight, although it was reportedly pre-decanted and aerated before being packed up and enoyed with the group. The biggest thing I remember thinking with this one was "I cannot believe this one is almost 10 years old" as the youth in this wine was quite impressive. There was a raspberry cough drop note that was quite present in this wine, with a lavender as well that was very expressive. Really enjoyed this one tonight.
