Wrath San Saba Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

A great new small-production Pinot (only 237 cases made) from California's Central Coast and Wrath. 95 Points Robert Parker: "Vinified with 20% whole clusters and matured for 10 months in 40% new French oak, the Wrath Pinot Noir San Saba Vineyard has a pale garnet color and lush aromas of red cherries, bergamot, forest floor, aniseed and cured meats. The medium-bodied palate has a core of pleasantly broody fruit, loads of Angostura-like accents, fireworks of fresh acidity and a long, ultra-spicy finish." 95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Glistening magenta. Displays an array of fresh red fruit, blood orange, floral and exotic spice aromas that are complemented by smoky mineral, vanilla and incense nuances. Stains the palate with finely detailed, spice-laced redcurrant, cherry-cola and raspberry flavors that show superb depth with no excess fat. Turns sweeter on the strikingly long finish, which shows outstanding tenacity, harmonious tannins and repeating red fruit, spice and floral notes. 20% whole clusters and 40% new French oak." Many of the worlds great wines, those with the deepest expression, come from a place that is both harsh and unforgiving for growing wine grapes. One such place is Monterey along California's coast. Cool temperatures roll in from the ocean daily and strong winds sweep across the vineyards. Volcanic soils intermixed with ancient sea beds provides the vines of the Monterey peninsula with a near perfect environment to challenge the heartiest of vines. The key to success is planting the best suited clones. Winery notes: "Our Estate San Saba Vineyard is sheltered in a nook just below the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA, roughly 25 miles southeast of the town of Monterey. Our climate is heavily influenced by the morning fog and afternoon winds from the nearby Pacific Ocean. This is a cool site with little rainfall and one of the longest growing seasons in the world. A mere 378 cases produced."
