Wayfarer Wayfarer Vineyard Chardonnay 2014

$84.95

New Sonoma Coast releases from Pahlmeyer - limited. 94 Points Antonio Galloni:  "The 2014 Chardonnay Wayfarer Vineyard shows just how well suited this part of the Sonoma Coast is to Chardonnay. A rich, ample wine, the 2014 boasts striking depth and overall balance. Lemon confit, white flowers, vanilla and a host of savory notes accompany the long, extended finish. This is a very polished and distinguished wine from Wayfarer." Cleo Pahlmeyer, daughter of Napa Valley's Jayson Pahlmeyer, came up with the idea of produce a stand-alone brand from the Wayfarer Vineyard on the Sonoma coast in 2012.  According to the St. Helena Star, "then-Pahlmeyer winemaker Helen Turley had called the property the destined 'La Tache of California,' referring to the blessed grand cru in Burgundy."  Pahlmeyer teamed up with winemaker Bibiana González Rave, formerly of Lynmar, on this project. The Star: "Indeed, the 2013 Wayfarer Vineyard Chardonnay has well-integrated oak nuances, with toastiness on the nose that expresses itself more as a complex, rich mouth feel on the palate. Pahlmeyer explained that the medium toast of the barrels used is key to maintaining balanced flavor; a heavier toast is not desired. The 2012 Wayfarer chardonnay ages in 65 percent new French oak

2014 Wayfarer Chardonnay, FORT ROSS-SEAVIEW PnP - Drinking in a perfect spot right now. For those people that have opened a bottle within a year or so of release(#me too). Open a another bottle soon! IT’S BETTER. Waves of orchard fruit. Orange rind, apricot, banana foster. Finishing with tangy acidity. Very nicely done Chardonnay. 93+ drink until 2024-at Bali Steak & Seafood Waikiki, Hawaii

Apple nose. Delicious. Sweet but not syrupy. Some butter in oak. Great chard. Complex.

Overall the '14 gets better ratings than the '13, but not what I found. Slightly disappointed since the '13 was such a stunner.

Welcome back to the oak driven Chard. What a lovely wine. Hint of toasted notes and honey. Very silky and gentle on the palate. I had this chard with my husband with smoked salmon. Exquisite.
