Wayfarer Wayfarer Vineyard Chardonnay 2013

$84.95

New Sonoma Coast releases from Pahlmeyer - limited. 94 Points Antonio Galloni:  "The 2013 Chardonnay Wayfarer Vineyard shows just how well suited this site is to Chardonnay. Lemon oil, jasmine, apricot pit and white pepper are all beautifully articulated in a tense, crystalline Chardonnay that dazzles with brilliance. This is by far the most chiseled Chardonnay in the Pahlmeyer range, and a great example of what is possible on the coast." Cleo Pahlmeyer, daughter of Napa Valley's Jayson Pahlmeyer, came up with the idea of produce a stand-alone brand from the Wayfarer Vineyard on the Sonoma coast in 2012.  According to the St. Helena Star, "then-Pahlmeyer winemaker Helen Turley had called the property the destined 'La Tache of California,' referring to the blessed grand cru in Burgundy."  Pahlmeyer teamed up with winemaker Bibiana González Rave, formerly of Lynmar, on this project. The Star: "Indeed, the 2013 Wayfarer Vineyard Chardonnay has well-integrated oak nuances, with toastiness on the nose that expresses itself more as a complex, rich mouth feel on the palate. Pahlmeyer explained that the medium toast of the barrels used is key to maintaining balanced flavor; a heavier toast is not desired. The 2012 Wayfarer chardonnay ages in 65 percent new French oak

A really great stand out of the potential of Chardonnay when handled correctly.

Balanced and beautiful! Lemon curd, ripe pear wrapped around toasty brioche. Green flecks and bright in color. Lighter than expected, medium weight, with a long finish. A very classy Chardonnay.

Continues to be one of my favorite Chards. Can't wait for my 14s to arrive - supposedly even better.

Beautiful straw color in the glass with a tantalizing nose that pulls you right in. Lemon zest, brioche and honey on the nose. The mouthfeel and palate are incredible and reminiscent of a Côte de Beaune white Burgundy. I get citrus notes upfront with a great depth of flavors including butterscotch, toasted almonds, and a touch of brioche. The same amazing quality you'd expect from Pahlmeyer wines continues in their offshoot Wayfarer. Merry Christmas everyone!

It's unabashedly CA in style. Loads of lemon curd and just a hint of grassiness and enough spice to balance it out. Grabs you and won't let go with a really beautiful finish.
