Walter Hansel's 2012 Cahill Lane Chardonnay is a beautiful, hand-crafted 100% Chardonnay from one of our favorite boutique producers down the road from Kistler. Only made 300 cases produced. Limited. 93 Points Robert Parker: "More tropical in character with lots of orange marmalade and peach jam notes is the 2012 Chardonnay Cahill Lane, which comes 100% from Old Wente clones planted in Goldridge soils. Stephen Hansel told me that yields tend to be relatively large because of the fertility of the vineyard. Notes of pineapples, honeysuckle, buttered popcorn and apricot marmalade are buttressed by good acidity, an elegant yet full-throttle mouthfeel and a delicious, long, dry finish. It should drink well for 5-6 years....Combining quality with reasonable prices and estate-grown grapes, you can’t do much better than Stephen Hansel’s Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs."

Monthly WTF wine group meet up. A bit reductive at first, alongside burnt lemon, meringue and sea salt aromatics. More banana peel and honeyed mango and truffled mushroom came through as it opened and warmed up. Great producer. Thanks @Dan Fitzgerald

Initially there was a little bit of ureal funk to this wine. But, it didn't take longer than 15 minutes for this to blow off. This wine has a lot of acidic grip up front but there was some honey and bright young honeydew melon. The middle of this wine seems to get a little bit of simmered herbal mushroom. Finishes strong though.

Like being on an apple orchard. Apple skin, barnyard, freshly churned butter. Integrated oak, bright and balanced on the palate. Long finish.
