Vermillion Wine (Helen Keplinger) Vermillion California Grenache Blend 2017

$29.99

Fantastic new red from Helen Keplinger, dont miss. 91 Points Robert Parker: "Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Red Blend leaps joyously from the glass with bright, expressive raspberry coulis, Black Forest cake and blackberry compote scents plus touches of garrigue, fertile loam, fried herbs and dried roses with a waft of Sichuan pepper. Medium-bodied, the palate is softly spoken with a wonderfully plush texture and oodles of freshness, finishing long and perfumed." 90 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Vermillion checks in as a blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Counoise and is make by the talented Helen Keplinger. It offers a Pinot Noir-like style in its dark fruits, spice, herbes de Provence, and savory, earthy aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied, elegant, and stays light on its feet and is always a joy to drink." This is a serious Rhone-style red with the complexity and palate to show for it. Keplinger Winery’s 2nd label, “leftover” blend (It’s so good, you can only imagine what the first-cut wines are like.) The nose gives off beautiful layers of wild strawberry, black licorice and graphite followed by insane flavors of red and black fruit, dried herbs, and a red vine finish. Only 400 cases produced.

This is a very tasty red blend from California. Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Medium plus in body with a nice mouthfeel. Dry and fruity on the palate with medium acidity. Showing cherries, currants, plums, cooked strawberries, spices, oak, light vanilla, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth and black tea. Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 8 year old is drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. Spicy with nice complexity. Tasty and easy drinking. Rich, elegant and fruit forward. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 3 hours of airtime. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A good party wine too. Grapes are grown in Sierra Foothills and Sonoma County. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. 14.7% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $40.

Red blend that is primarily Grenache along with some Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Syrah and Counoise. Dark fruit, baking spice and herbal aromas and flavors. Acidity is quite bright. Savory and earthy. Another excellent Helen Kepplinger effort. Great summer Red as it can handle a bit of a chill! Revisited in September 2021. Still awesome!
