Vermillion Wine (Helen Keplinger) Vermillion California Grenache Blend 2015

$35

Fantastic new red from Helen Keplinger, dont miss. This is a serious Rhone-style red with the complexity and palate to show for it. Keplinger Winery’s 2nd label, “leftover” blend (It’s so good, you can only imagine what the first-cut wines are like.) The nose gives off beautiful layers of wild strawberry, black licorice and graphite followed by insane flavors of red and black fruit, dried herbs, and a red vine finish. This vintage is a blend of 55% Grenache, 22% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah, and 5% Petite Sirah. Only 400 cases produced.

Beautiful wine. Some call it her "second label" and I think I recall Helen saying something along the line of her utilizing extra/leftover juices to create a bit of a "kitchen sink" wine. While hard to find under $35, I did score a case @ $25 each and am so glad I did. An "artisanal red wine blend" that shouldn't be missed.

I’ve had the 2015 of this a few times and it is evolving nicely. Dense, a little wild, red fruit and underbrush. Noteworthy structure and complexity.

The 2nd label of the highly allocated Keplinger Wines, this southern Rhône blend delivers. Plum, raspberry, blackberry jam, and baking spice. Palate is warm and round, with velvety tannins. Smooth but also has the depth. Love the label.

Another great vintage of this wine. I’m amazed at the year to year consistency. Fantastic flavors of raspberry and strawberry, baking spice, great tannins and acidity - food friendly but not required. Crowd pleasing, pop and pour goodness.
