Vérité La Muse Sonoma County Merlot Blend 2012

$389.99

In an historic moment, wine critic Robert Parker, Jr., of The Wine Advocate recently announced   twelve 100-point scores for Vérité’s three blends, Le Désir, La Joie and La Muse. This is the first time a Sonoma County winery has received this many perfect scores. Limited.100 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2012 La Muse, a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec from Bennett Valley, Alexander Valley, Chalk Hill and Knights Valley, reveals wonderful sucrosity along with a sexy, up-front perfume of plums, graphite, licorice, Christmas fruitcake, kirsch, black currants and blackberries. This big, full-bodied, opulently-styled wine will probably be the easiest to drink early on, although it certainly needs at least 5 years in the bottle to reach its peak. It should keep for 25+ years."Vérité produces wines without compromise, wines that reflect the terroir in which they are grown. The name Vérité comes from the French word for truth. The wines are a combination of old-world experience and new-world fruit. Vigneron Pierre Seillan, Vérité’s first and only winemaker, is a man who understands and appreciates the importance of the land. He is intimately involved in every step of the winegrowing process from bud break to bottling.

2012: Rolling the dice that this would show well at such an early stage. Velvety mouthfeel, exhibiting abundant fresh cherry flavors. Refined, supple with a long elegant finish, with the fruit completely masking any sensation of tannins. No reason not to open and enjoy this now.

Such great quality. Still very young. Great dirt and charcoal. I tasted cardamom throughout the entire bottle. Very different from most Cali wines in a good way.

Needs another 5-10yrs. The nose is shy right now and the palate presents plum, chocolate, tobacco and cedar. Long life ahead.

This Merlot dominated blend really opened up beautifully with a couple hours of air. Spiced sugar plum nose with whiffs of burnt embers and hot tar. The palate is full of ripe black cherries and plum cut by formidable balsam wood. The palate finishes with notes of tonic bitters as well as the resounding fruits. Very well put together and complex.
