Turtle Rock Claude's Cuvée Syrah Blend 2018

96 Points  - hot new label                                                                        One of Paso Roble's up-and-coming Superstars. Turtle Rock  is a new label from Don Burns, assistant winemaker at SAXUM. Limited. 96 Points Jeb Dunnuck:  "Mostly Syrah with 23% Grenache, 20% Mataro, and 5% Tempranillo, the Turtle Rock 2018 Claude's Cuvee has a juicy, elegant, yet still concentrated, classic Paso style with its black and blue fruits, ground pepper, chocolate, and violet aromas and flavors. With full body, an elegant, seamless texture, good acidity, and plenty of tannins, give bottles 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade..." ...There are few estates in California today that are more exciting than Don Burns’ Turtle Rock. Pulling from some of the top vineyards on the westside of Paso Robles and making the wines as Justin Smith’s Saxum estate, Burns has consistently produced some of the wines of the vintage since his first releases in 2014. As I wrote in the past, readers interested in finding the next up and coming superstar in Paso Robles need to put Don and Claudia Burns’ Turtle Rock estate at the top of their list."

Deep ruby in color with a nose of blackberries, dried herbs (oregano in particular), black pepper, and tea. Medium body with good powerful fruit to match the higher alcohol content. A nice tangy finish.
