Turley The White Coat California Grenache Blanc Blend 2017

$39.99

The Turley White Coat is that rare white wine from Turley Cellars. A phenomenal Rousanne and Grenache Blanc blend. Limited. 91 Points Robert Parker: "The 2017 The White Coat is a blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc with a smaller portion of Vermentino. It opens with hints of honeycomb, orange peel and white blossom with sliced green pear and green apple notes at the core plus a hint of wet stone. Light to medium-bodied, it has pure citrus and tree fruit flavors in the mouth with floral and yeasty notes, finishing with juicy acidity and some phenolic texture...." Though the blend has changed over the years, White Coat (named for Larry’s past as an Emergency Room physician) comprises rich, textured Roussanne from Rattlesnake Ridge on Howell Mountain moderated by acidity and structure of Grenache Blanc from Pesenti Vineyard. New this year is the addition of Vermentino, as well as a little extra Grenache Blanc, from the Cobb Vineyard in Amador. The result is a unique, dynamic white wine with minerals, stone fruit and white flowers on the nose and great viscosity tempered by lean acidity on the palate. ...One of California's great wineries, Larry Turley's Turley Wine Cellars continues to play a critical role in safeguarding the Golden State's viticultural heritage, saving old, head-trained and sometimes own-rooted vineyards from destruction. With fully 29 different bottlings, Zinfandel (often complemented by small amounts of other co-planted varieties, such as Carignan and Grenache) is the standard-bearer here, though Turley also does a fantastic job with other varieties, most obviously Petite Syrah. Given how distinctive each of the single-vineyard bottlings is, it's tempting to suggest (though some will no doubt think it heretical) that Zinfandel might be the variety best adapted to expressing "terroir" in California."

A bit too acidic for me. White peaches, grapefruit, and lemon peel. More partial to Turley Zins.

Nose of exotic fruits, mandarin orange, and ripe green bean. Palette is full, with med- acid and a med finish. Mostly indecipherable, but then I’m a Roussanne n00b. A nice wine that hopefully gains complexity and interest.
