Turley Salvador Vineyard Zinfandel 2014

$74.99

94 Points Robert Parker: "From another Contra Costa site, the 2014 Zinfandel Salvador Vineyard (15.6% alcohol) has dark berry fruit, with earth, spice and floral notes. It is full-bodied and seems completely different than other Contra Costa Zinfandels. This wine has a spectacular finish, and certainly struck me as one of the most compelling of the Contra Costa offerings, which are all impressive. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. The quintessential old vine Zinfandel, these vines date from 1896.... ...All told there are seven Zinfandels from Napa Valley, ranging from Atlas Peak in the south, to Howell Mountain in mid-valley, to the estate vineyard just north of St. Helena. As one might expect, all of these are remarkable Zinfandels."

No rating here. There was a discussion around this wine that it possibly had EA as a flaw. At first, it seemed completely normal showing loads of ripe and stewed red and black fruits. Even some cedar. After some time, there was a sharpness on the nose that arrived that seemed out of place. Anyone know if zins are more susceptible to that flaw than other wines?

.

Fresh berries on the nose lead to a bright raspberry palate with an acidity that conveys a pink grapefruit-esque edge to the bramble and leaf notes in the finish. This is light-to-medium bodied and seems like a wine that’s best to enjoy over the next few years.

This one was amazing! The vintage is a knockout with some nice bold finish punch.

Nice as always from Turley -- approachable cherry charmer. Decant aggressively.
