Very limited Turley Zinfandel. previous vintage 91 Points Robert Parker: "Another relatively big cuvée for Turley is their Zinfandel Old Vines (15.5% alcohol) that comes from bits and pieces of parcels that are impressive terroirs, but individually too small to bottle separately. Hence, they are blended together, yet represent vineyards between 41 and 130 years old! This juicy wine offers loads of raspberry and briary fruit, a full-bodied mouthfeel, good purity, zesty acidity and ripe tannin. Layered and rich, it is a satisfying, lusty Zinfandel to drink over the next 4-5 years."

Are there better wines? Yes Are there better wines with leftovers? No From Turley: “Old Vines is composed of a variety of old sites from California that are either too small to be made into a vineyard designate wine or are “new” to the Turley family (and way of farming). Vines are anywhere from 41 to 129 years old, and a true representation of California old vine Zinfandel, hailing from vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi, Contra Costa, Amador and Paso Robles.”

The last of my stash of 2015 Old Vines was still drinking really well. Beautiful transparent garnet color. A deep, rich almost chewy nose. Dark fruits and hints of raspberry, maybe even a little red Lifesaver. Mild tannins. Thanks not-so-old friend.
