Turley Juvenile California Zinfandel 2019

$29

Very limited Turley 2019 Juvenile Zinfandel.New release! Antonio Galloni (Vinous):  "The 2018 Zinfandel Juvenile is a pretty, fragrant wine that will drink well right out of the gate. Bright floral and red-toned fruit notes convey a real sense of energy in this perfumed, entry-level Zinfandel from Turley. This is such a pretty wine. I very much like the energy here." Winery Notes: "Though the vast majority of our wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of our old vine sites. We tag the vine when we replant it so as not to mix the brand new vine with its much older neighbors, then pick these young vines separately and make a distinct wine. The vines that make up Juvenile range in age from about 6-25 years, and we pull from 15 of our vineyards across California, including Hayne, Ueberroth, Pesenti, Salvador, and Vineyard 101."

Deep ruby; medium intensity aromas of very ripe black cherry, pomegranate, potpourri, intense vanilla, sweet baking spices; dry, medium acid, medium ripe tannins, high alcohol, full body, pronounced intensity flavors consistent with aromas; long finish, very floral and perfumed on palate, decadent

There is nothing junior league about the Turley Juvenile Zin. Most of the fruit is from ‘recently’ replanted sections of the famed plots that deliver Turley’s great single vineyard Zins. And ‘recently’ would pass for ‘in their prime’ to most producers at 10-40 years old. In any event, it’s a great wine at a bargain $25 with this youthful vintage showing creamy berries, a hint of tobacco and some really nice acidity. A great way to enjoy great Zin that’s ready to drink and priced to go with weekday dinner.

Translucent purple, light red fruit smell, light tannins with significant residual sugars. Quite nice.
