96 Points - Limited Rare Turley Petite Syrah from the famed Hayne Vineyard - Very limited 97 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2018 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard is another exceptional wine in this range. Super-ripe dark red cherry, wild flowers, mint and spice are all wonderfully alive in this lush, inky Petite from one of the most pedigreed sites in St. Helena and Napa Valley more broadly. Time in the glass brings out a brighter set of red fruit, blood orange and floral notes to round things out beautifully. The Hayne is one of many highlights in this fabulous range of 2018s from Larry Turley and Tegan Passalacqua." 93 Points Robert Parker: "Inky purple-black, the 2018 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard opens with cassis and baked blue fruits accented by olive, cured meats, aniseed, dried herbs and floral notes. The palate is full-bodied but restrained, with a ripe, grainy frame and nuanced fruits, and it finishes long with a bright pop of juiciness. Give it another couple years in bottle... ...One of California's great wineries, Larry Turley's Turley Wine Cellars continues to play a critical role in safeguarding the Golden State's viticultural heritage, saving old, head-trained and sometimes own-rooted vineyards from destruction. With fully 29 different bottlings, Zinfandel (often complemented by small amounts of other co-planted varieties, such as Carignan and Grenache) is the standard-bearer here, though Turley also does a fantastic job with other varieties, most obviously Petite Syrah. Given how distinctive each of the single-vineyard bottlings is, it's tempting to suggest (though some will no doubt think it heretical) that Zinfandel might be the variety best adapted to expressing "terroir" in California."

The 2018 Hayne Petite Syrah is in its youth as expected for these epically long lasting wines. Opaque with a bright cherry edge in the glass, it has an oaky, creamy nose. It’s tight with drying tannins right now, but hints of dark berries, cassis, and an earthy graphite show through and give hope for a great future.

Very nice wine but a bit on the expensive side. Smooth and silky, even young

Dark purple color but maybe a twinge lighter in color than the Pesenti. Sugar plums, blueberries, and milk chocolate on the nose. Massive tannins and tons of fruit, this wine is packed with flavor. Full-bodied it coats the mouth and the finish is quite long. Amazing wine, this one can stand the test of time, and probably should. Used the Coravin on this for a small taste. Will lay it down in the cellar for a bit along with its twin.
