Very limited Turley Zinfandel. 92 Points Robert Parker: "The 2016 Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard hails from a site planted in 1937 on the Sonoma County side of Mt Vedeer at about 900 feet in elevation. Bursting with scents of cassis, ripe plums and cherry preserve, it's full-bodied, plush and lavish, with a rich, deep core of fleshy fruit that largely conceals its supple tannins, followed by a long, powerful finish. With a high pH and high total acidity, it remains in balance, but it's one of the broadest, most dramatic of Turley's Zinfandels, and it will likely shine in its youth... ...One of California's great wineries, Larry Turley's Turley Wine Cellars continues to play a critical role in safeguarding the Golden State's viticultural heritage, saving old, head-trained and sometimes own-rooted vineyards from destruction. With fully 29 different bottlings, Zinfandel (often complemented by small amounts of other co-planted varieties, such as Carignan and Grenache) is the standard-bearer here, though Turley also does a fantastic job with other varieties, most obviously Petite Syrah. Given how distinctive each of the single-vineyard bottlings is, it's tempting to suggest (though some will no doubt think it heretical) that Zinfandel might be the variety best adapted to expressing "terroir" in California."

Of the many Zinfandel bottlings from Turley, those from Sonoma (over Napa and Paso) are my favorite. With some age, this shows a lovely mix of blue and red fruits, accented by dried herbs and a touch of smoke. On the palate, it’s reserved and balanced - much less rich than I expected. The acidity is quite high-toned, high alcohol is well concealed, and the finish is delicious and long.

It wasn't bad, but we didn't love this one. It had a bit of a sour note that we didn't care for.

Much better than the CAB from a few months ago. Turley - Fredericks Vineyards - 2016 Zinfandel. A spicy delightful zin! Still not the best Zin I have ever had. It has a slightly sour finish but good spice and oak in the front. I want to try the petite Syrah!
