Turley Dragon Vineyard Zinfandel 2014

$74.95

95 points                                 Limited new release 95 Points Robert Parker: "The 2014 Zinfandel Dragon Vineyard (15.9% alcohol) is from another Howell Mountain site where Turley has excelled. Beautiful floral notes intermixed with raspberry, black cherry, spice box and pepper are stunningly rich, long and heady. This is a real beauty, full-bodied, opulent and a total hedonistic and intellectual turn-on. Drink it over the next 7-8 years... ..All told there are seven Zinfandels from Napa Valley, ranging from Atlas Peak in the south, to Howell Mountain in mid-valley, to the estate vineyard just north of St. Helena. As one might expect, all of these are remarkable Zinfandels."

Little pre-fathers day libation. Big, bold, and beautiful. Weighty and chewy. Cherry, spicebox and pepper. Loaded with alcohol - comes in at 15.9%. You know it’s there but it’s not overpowering. The finish is long and full of vanilla and spice. I ❤️ @Turley Wine Cellars.

Wine of the night. Colorado elk loin with berry glaze, riced cauliflower, Parmesan green beans and a winter beet salad.

2014. Absolutely delish. Why you (I) love Turley.

Perhaps too young, but so good. A mix of black and red berries with a sublet core or vanilla and eucalyptus. Almost resembling a mixed berry compote in texture and complexity. The fruit pulls in a dozen ways while the gentle spice sings in the background.

Was better after it opened up. Try again in 1 year. And then again in another. Plum. Smooth. Not a big fruity at this time.

I thought I’d pull out one of my few bottles of Zinfandel to go with pizza tonight. There is some nice brambly, red fruit here, but it feels one-dimensional and lacks complexity. I don’t care for the lack of tannic structure either. Someone who likes Zinfandel might enjoy this more than I did. Not my thing.
