Turley Dogtown Vineyard Zinfandel 2014

$69

Very limited Turley Zinfandel. 93 Points Robert Parker: "A Zinfandel that I have always loved from Turley is their Zinfandel from the Dogtown Vineyard. The 2014 Zinfandel Dogtown Vineyard, from the up-and-coming Lodi AVA, tips the scales at 15.4 % alcohol. It is a sexy, lush, full-bodied Zinfandel, oozing with fruit and character. The wine has underlying loamy soil notes and spice box, as well as copious quantities of raspberry, black cherry and briary, mountain red fruits. It is spicy and full-bodied, with an opulent, plush and layered texture. This is irresistible. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. This vineyard was planted in volcanic and clay soils in 1944. All told there are seven Zinfandels from Napa Valley, ranging from Atlas Peak in the south, to Howell Mountain in mid-valley, to the estate vineyard just north of St. Helena. As one might expect, all of these are remarkable Zinfandels."

Better if consumed earlier but still amazing. Ever so slightly on the hammy side 6 years later

This is certainly a well-made wine from very old vines, and with great concentration and balance. I just find it hard to really appreciate the flavor profile of Zinfandel. More a shortcoming of me than of the wine.
