Turley Cobb Vineyard Zinfandel 2013

$65

Very limited Turley Zinfandel. Robert Parker:  "A lighter Zinfandel (although by no means should the word “wimpy” be implied), the 2013 Zinfandel Cobb Vineyard from Amador tips the scales at 15.3% alcohol. This higher elevation vineyard (1500 feet) planted in volcanic and granite soils has produced a more finesse-styled and aromatic Zinfandel. It possesses a touch of austerity, but beautiful, almost Pinot Noir-inspired black cherry and berry fruit. Some minerality again makes an appearance in the wine. Medium to full-bodied, it is very stylish, and for those who want a Zinfandel more reserved and restrained, this is your pick of the Turley portfolio. Drink it over the next 7-8 years."

Gripping tannins, great acidity. Jammy blackberry-dark fruits, white pepper soft finish. Love it.

Intensity and lightness almost like a rich new world Pinot noir. Leads with pepper and savory herbs with raspberry coulis, baked blackberry and candied lavender. Baked earth notes on the palate.

The day started long before sunrise in Amador. 400 miles later and I am back in Plymouth enjoying Foie and this.

Heat off the nose, bramble, flowers and dust. Raspberry blueberry pie filling, five spice, chocolate. Very balanced, not pruny or over done

Nice flavor. Takes a little while to open but goes well with steak.

'13 Turley Cobb Vineyard. 15.3 Zin that stands up to anything you'll throw at it. Fatty pork ribs AND bitter melon, no problem. Lay it down for another couple years if you don't want that assertiveness.

Medium body with an earthy drink ability to it and a dry finish that was pleasantly unexpected. The wine was absolutely delicious and definitely not your typical Zinfandel
