Torrin The Banshee Grenache Blend 2013

$69.99

95 Points                                      From one of Paso Roble's up-and-coming superstars, this new release is extremely limited. The vineyard was planted by Justin Smith of Saxum and Eric Jensen from Booker.  Scott Hawley is owner and winemaker, with very small production each year.   95 Points Robert Parker: "A blend of 48% Syrah, 32% Grenache and 20% Mourvedre, the 2013 The Banshee Proprietary Blend is another terrific wine from this estate. Offering notes of black fruits, pepper, smoked herbs and hints of flowers, this beauty is full-bodied, ultra-pure, multidimensional and layered, with considerable elegance and finesse. Coming from the Torrin Estate vineyard and the Shadow Canyon vineyard on York Mountain (this is outside the Paso Robles AVA, hence the Central Coast AVA for this release), it saw one-third whole clusters and 18 months in 30% new French oak. Drink it anytime over the coming decade... ...These latest 2013s are hands down the greatest wines to date from winemaker Scott Hawley. In addition to superb tannin quality, they have brilliant purity of fruit and concentrated, balanced profiles that will allow them to evolve gracefully. In addition to the core lineup of the Akasha, Banshee, Mavin and Tsundere, Scott has expanded the lineup with the James Berry Vineyard (first vintage was 2012) and the new Shadow Canyon Vineyard Syrah, which comes from a cooler site on York Mountain, on the western edge of Paso Robles."

Wonderful herbal earth with plenty of fruit and a big, cut body.

2013 Vintage. 15.4% Alcohol. 48% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre. A SGM this year. Confirming our cellar aging of Torrin wines, this is now in a sweet spot. Yum.

Dark ruby color. Tons of spice on the nose, black pepper, red and dark fruit with oak character. Full body, fair amount of tannins. Great balance on the palate. Could use a few more years. Long finish. Great wine.
