The Prisoner Wine Company Saldo California Zinfandel 2017

$27.99

Fantastic new Zinfandel from the The Prisoner Wine Co! Extremely limited new release - get your allocation before it sells out. Saldo is a delicious blend of Zinfandel & Petite Sirah. Through the success of the Prisoner label, the winery has gained access to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in Nothern California and made a high quality Zinfandel that doesn't fit the constraints of a single appelation. The result? SALDO. 93 Points Brix26:  "The Saldo has a dark ruby color and intense aromas of dark cherry, cocoa powder and baking spice. The entry is rich and full, and leads into a broad mid palate with concentration and density, backed by lively acidity. The texture is soft and the tannins are polished. The finish is long with persistent notes of chocolate, berry and vanilla bean."

Jammy! This is a very bold wine, not really balanced but it is unique. 85% Zinfandel 15% blend of Syrah & Petite Sirah. The Zinfandel comes from 3 different AVA’s. It is a unique blend, I recommend it for someone who doesn’t know a lot about wine and likes a bold wine, you could really impress them. I wonder what this wine was like when Phinney was the winemaker.

Drank half last night. Tonight, this was a nice pair with blackened tuna. Big blackfruit with a little residual sugar cut the Cajun spices just right for me. My beautiful wife and her equally chic mother are having Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio with salmon. I really dislike salmon. 91+ points

An old fave, 2017 vintage. Sweeter and more pruney than I remember.

Really delicious and interesting. John and I got almost no fruit, unlike some of the other ‘jammy’ reviews noted. Maybe the food pairing? We were surprised to see that when we went to jot down tasting thoughts... both noted it was unusually un- jammy for a zin as well tasted it. Will but again.
