The Prisoner Wine Company Saldo California Zinfandel 2015

$27.99

Fantastic new Zinfandel from the The Prisoner Wine Co! Extremely limited new release - get your allocation before it sells out. Saldo is a delicious blend of Zinfandel & Petite Sirah. Through the success of the Prisoner label, the winery has gained access to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in Nothern California and made a high quality Zinfandel that doesn't fit the constraints of a single appelation. The result? SALDO. 93 Points Brix26:  "The Saldo has a dark ruby color and intense aromas of dark cherry, cocoa powder and baking spice. The entry is rich and full, and leads into a broad mid palate with concentration and density, backed by lively acidity. The texture is soft and the tannins are polished. The finish is long with persistent notes of chocolate, berry and vanilla bean."

An intense nose full of jam and clove. Flavors of cherry, Christmas spice, tea and pepper. Smooth tannins. Big and bold, a bit extracted, this is a full-throttled zin and doesn’t hold back. Needs some time to open up. Picked up on the cheap at Costco. Enjoyable but IMHO you’re better off with Seghesio. Superior wine and a much better value.

Pepper and baking spices on the nose. Burns the nose just a tad. Syrupy, full, and smooth on the palate with a long finish. I'd like it to have a bit more backbone and less bite, but not a bad wine at all.
