The Prisoner Wine Company Blindfold California Chardonnay Blend 2014

$29.99

The new Prisoner white wine!  A delicious white blend that will be here for a short time only. This marks just the second vintage for the Prisoner Wine Company's winemaker Jen Beloz. Jen worked with Dave Phinney in the transition of the Prisoner and Saldo for the 2011 vintage and is responsible for the beautiful new upcoming 2012 vintage of Prisoner and Saldo on her own. She comes to the project with extensive zinfandel pedigree after having worked for 10 years with Joel Peterson at Ravenswood, while working toward a Master's degree in Enology.  Jen's first creation on her own is the delicious Blindfold white wine blend. It has a California appellation with fruit sourced from the Napa Valley, Sonoma County, Paso Robles and Santa Ynez. The blend is unique; using primarily Chardonnay (35%) and classic Rhone whites, Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, with a small percentage of Riesling and Semillon to bring out the aromatics. The wine has beautiful aromas of tropical fruit, baked apple and pear, incredible richness while maintaining acidity and freshness.    90 Points Robert Parker:  "A blend of 30% Chardonnay, 20% Viognier, 20% Roussanne and the balance Grenache Blanc, Chenin Blanc and a few other grapes, the 2013 Proprietary White Blindfold is close in quality to the brilliant 2012 I reviewed last year. Reminiscent of some of Sine Qua Non’s white wines from California’s Central Coast, the 2013 is more zesty, and plays it closer to the vest, but it offers lovely notes of fresh pineapple, tangerine skins, orange marmalade, melon and honeysuckle. I wish more California wineries would consider using such innovative blends as this given the high quality that can result. This beauty should be enjoyed over the next several years....This brand was first created by Orin Swift, but is now run by winemaker Jen Beloz and David Phinney. The wines’ impressive labels reflect the innovative and creative nature of this wine company."

Round, creamy structure after the most bright citrus, floral bouquet on the nose. White violet, lemon followed by earthy, toasted walnut. If you're reading this, you understand that this wine jumps across all spectrums. The toasted walnut finish is wild.

Rich and creamy with floral and peach notes. Like a Chardonnay in texture with Viognier like favors.

Light and reasonably crisp. Decent wine to sip on while you're slow cooking some meat on a hot day

Founder and Winemaker Dave Phinney’s deep respect for the vineyards is rooted in an early attempt to make a sophisticated wine from a difficult site. Golden yellow aromas of tropical and citrus fruit and melons. This wine was aged, 25% in new oak, 60% neutral & 15% stainless for 10 months. The palate shows fresh fruit flavors of melons, citrus, and pears, hints of cinnamon spice and toasty oak. Lingering finish, lively acidity, good balance ending with mineral tones, and was well balanced.

Very rich, but very complex. Hickory, Granny Smith Apple and mild oak. Good wine and not overstated.
