Made from the younger vines of Harlan Estate, BOND, and Promontory, The Mascot Napa Valley shares a unique glimpse into the evolution of our winegrowing estates. The Mascot began early on as an experiment, after talking the family and winemaking team into sparing a few barrels of wine - produced from our younger vines - to explore a blend of my own. In the first few years, before it had a label or a name, it was just a wine shared with friends and family. It wasn’t until the 2008 vintage, our first official release, that we had enough to share with new friends. The Mascot is one of the newer wine labels from the famed Harlan family, but this time...it's the younger Will Harlan! Although Will Harlan grew up running around the winery, hand-turning de-stemmers, and eating grapes off the vines in his family's backyard, he never quite thought he'd become a winemaker. The young vines of a mix of Harlan properties. Good, but not compelling at the price point. Pebble Beach Food & Wine 2025.

All the puzzle pieces were there, Royal DNA would come through blind. Even after a 45 min decant this was a bit closed, was wishing I waited longer on this one… Will score way higher in 4+ years.

Seamless. Almost surprised how much I liked it. Not an obvious or in your face wine.

Huge pedigree on this one, being from the younger vines of Harlan… not a true second label. Rich Oakville flavors. For the price point you can do better. Also could have improved with a couple more years in the bottle I think.

1/21/24 - First taste of the “baby Harlan” which did not disappoint, black fruit, vegetal bouquet with a slight white pepper, slightly tannic medium finish; more “old world” style with a Napa twist; still a little young; glad I bought a case to experience over the next years.

The Mascot is made from the young vines of Harlan, Promitory and Bond and you can really taste the royal pedigree here. Still in the fruit/primary phase with drying tannins. Very singular palate with a lot of concentration. Give these some additional cellar time to really shine. 95/96 potential

This took a while to open up, very tannic and dry, even after 5 years, this could use another 10 to smooth over. The nose is very pungent, spiced and prominent with a palate that is actually really clear, with notes of tart black fruit, definitely black berries and some blueberries, clove, vanilla, tobacco smoke, with a long, leather filled finish, with hints of balsamic and red meat hitting to the finish,
